Platelets, as a Natural Source of Growth Factors, for Tissue Healing and Regeneration
Original language description
Tissue engineering and regenerative medicine require the development of regulated growth factors and drug delivery. The delivery of multiple growth factors in optimized ratios is desirable in order to mimic physiological microenvironments. This assumption can be achieved by using natural sources of growth factors, such as platelets (Chen et al.2010). Platelets could be prepared and used for tissue healing purposes in the form of autologous platelet rich plasma (PRP), lysates, lyophilizates or/and releasates.
