Surface Modification of Metal-based Nanoparticles
Original language description
Increased use of engineered nanomaterials with novel properties has generated a need to understand their behavior and fate in living and environmental systems. Metal-based nanoparticles are reactive due to the high surface area to volume ratio and may represent risks for organisms and environment. Therefore, numerous methods have been developed to modify the surface properties of metal-based nanoparticles in order to improve their colloidal stability and prevent aggregation and dissolution. Such modifications may alter the transport, transformation and toxic effects and thus increase their biocompatibility and safety use that are important for sustainable production.
