After the completion of the Czech Linguistic Atlas (Český jazykový atlas, 1992–2011), the staff of the Department of dialectology of the Czech Language Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Brno began to compile the nationwide, relatively complete dialect dictionary. The paper briefly deals with hits history, aim, and limits. On the example of the so-called Carpatisms it reveals its conception.
