This study summarises the main points of the forthcoming monographic treatment of the Prague Belvedere (1538-1563) of Ferdinand I. This building was above all a political statement and it was directly inspired by the revival of the ancient villa that wasinitiated by the elite of the Catholic church and the aristocracy actively opposing reformation tendencies.
