The chapter points out the transnational features of the Slovak uprising in 1944. It focuses on two epic stories. One concerns the involvement in the uprising of escaped French POWs under their flamboyant commander – captain Georges de Lannurien. The other is the intervention of the British SOE and American OSS and the hostility they encountered from their Soviet opposite numbers in the NKVD.
