The study documents that the so-called Brezhnev doctrine was a cornerstone of Soviet policy towards communist countries in Eastern Europe long before the Prague spring. It explains at the same time that all groups within the leadership of CPCz – progressive or conservative alike – all the time and fully respected the principles of the doctrine of limited sovereignity of socialist countries (in this case Czechoslovakia) - before, during and after the August military intervention.
