Original language description
The International Law Commission has been a body tradionally preparing drafts od codification conventions on various topics of public international law. It faces new challenges today. On the one hand, most areas of general international law, which were convenient for codification, have been covered. On the other hand, the Commission, either upon request of states or on own initiative, has been addressing more and more topics which represent progressive development of international law.The ILC can maintain its identity of a body focused on general international law and at the same time try not to avoid new forms of work. In such case it will maintain its position of the main UN body for the progressive development of international law and its codification.
