Armed Intervention in Contemporary International Law
Original language description
Since the 1990's there has been a tendency mainly by the US and the NATO countries increasingly to resort to armed force to intervene in the "failed" or "rogue" states. Military interventions have been motivated mostly by humanitarian and security concerns (mainly to root out terrorism). This article examines the international legal framework which has evolved since the adoption of the UN Charter. The author's view is that there is still no clear legal basis for military interventions outside the authorisation of the UNSC. Nevertheless there are humanitarian emergencies which are evoking reasons for various kinds of interventions.
