First detection of Gamma rays from the Crab nebula with the CELESTE 'solar farme' Cherenkov detector.

  • Original language description

We have converted the THEMIS solar array into an atmospheric Cherenkov teleskope, called CELESTE, sensitive to astrophysical gamma ray above 30GeV. In early 1998 the Crab nebula was detected at 80GeV with a preliminary 18 heliostat setup. We describe theCELESTE detector and the data analysis and discuss the propspects for studiyng AGN and galactic source in this energy range.
