Already Einstein could never see quantum mechanics as complete theory. Nowadays, many researches, including Nobel Price Winner´t Hooft, view quantum mechanics as a statistical description of some underlying reality. The workshop Beyond the Quantum, organized in spring 2006 at the Lorentz Center in Leiden, The Netherlands, was one of the first meetings completely devoted to physics that may need explanation beyond quantum mechanics

Dnes, mnoho badatelů včetně nositele Nobelovy ceny Winner´t Hoofta pohlížejí na kvantovou mechaniku jako na statistický popis jakési skryté reality. Workshop ?Za kvantem? organizovaný na jaře 2006 v Lorentzově Centru v Leidenu, Holandsko, byl jedním z prvých setkání zcela věnovaných fyzice ležící možná za hranicí kvantové mechaniky
