    Twist grain boundary liquid-crystalline phases under the effect of the magnetic field: A complete 2H and 13C NMR

    A rod-like liquid crystalline mesogen containing (S)-2-methylbutyl-(S)-lactate unit in the chiral chain, whose acronym is HZL7/*, has been investigated by means of 2H NMR at two different magnetic fields. This mesogen presents peculiar mesomorphic properties, the TGBA* and TGBC* phases in a wide temperature range up to 60 K, and an additional phase transition from TGBC1* to TGBC2* has been identified. 2H NMR measurements performed on the HZL7/* labelled on the phenyl fragment allowed us to show a peculiar magnetic effect in unwinding the supramolecular structure of both TGBA* and TGBC* phases. Moreover, the analysis of the 2H NMR spectra of HZL7/* allowed us to obtain several structural properties of the studied mesophases, such as the tilt angle of the TGBC* phases and the orientational order parameter referred to the phenyl fragment in the whole mesomorphic range. High resolution 13C NMR study in the unwound TGBA* and TGBC* phases of HZL 7/* is reported.

    Kapalně-krystalický mesogen, jehož tyčinkovitá molekula obsahuje (S)-2-metylbutyl laktátovou jednotku v jádře molekuly, byl studován metodou nukleaární magnetické rezonance (NMR) pro různé velikosti měřícího magnetického pole. Tento mesogen v různých teplotních intervalech vykazuje několik TGB fází, které se pomocí NMR měření podařilo určit a upřesnit strukturu těchto fází.
