Phase diagram of new lactic acid derivatives exhibiting ferro- and antiferroelectric phases

Result description

Rich polymorphism in a new series of lactic acid derivatives has been established. It has been confirmed that the length of non-chiral n-alkyl chain plays important role changing the sequence and temperature range of phases. Except for one homologue withthe shortest chain all compounds exhibit a rather wide antiferroelectric SmC*A phase below the ferroelectric (SmC*) and paraelectric (SmA) phases. In the SmC* and antiferroelectric (SmC*A) phases the spontaneous polarization and tilt angle have been measured. For several compounds SAXS measurements have been performed providing information about layer spacing.

    Fázový diagram nových laktátových kapalně-krystalických derivátů, které vykazují feroelektrické a antiferoelektrické fáze

  • Czech description

    Nové kapalně-krystalické sloučeniny obsahují laktát jako chirální jednotku a vykazují ve svém mezomorfním chování velký polymorfismus, t.j. celou řadu fází. Ukázalo se mimo jiné, že i délka nechirálního řetězce hraje důležitou roli při vytváření fázovéhodiagramu. Kromě homologu s nejkratším řetězcem (n=6) všechny materiály vykazují feroelektrické, pro větší délky řetězce také antiferoelektrické fáze.
