    Electro-optic and thermo-optic and properties of phase separated polymer dispersed liquid crystal films

    Phase separated polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films were prepared using a low molar mass nematic liquid crystal (LC) and optically transparent polymer materials by a well known polymerization induced phase separation technique. The electro-optic, thermo-optic and other properties of these films have been investigated. The effect of temperature and external field on the LC droplet behavior, its orientation and optical responses were studied in detail. The experimental result shows that threshold voltage and optical transmission increases with increasing the temperature. Its may be due to the change in LC morphology, reduction in effective voltage drop across the LC droplet in the composite matrix. LC texture show that LC droplets exhibits bipolar and maltese type crosses. These results were compared with the dichroic dye doped PDLC film. The results conclude that dichroic dye doped PDLC film show an enhancement in optical properties and faster switching than pure PDLC film.

    Polymerní kapalně krystalické filmy (PDLC) se separovanými fázemi byly připraveny pomocí nízkomolekulárních nematických kapalných krystalů (LC) a opticky transparentního polymerního materiálu pomocí známé metody polymerizace indukující separaci fází. Byly studovány elektrooptické a termooptické vlastnosti těchto filmů, vliv teploty a externího pole na chování LC kapek. Výsledky byly srovnány s PDLC filmy dopovanými barvivy. Tyto filmy vykazují zesílení optických vlastností a rychlejší přepínání než čisté PDLC filmy.
