Limits of stability in emission of ions by laser ion sources
Original language description
A new classification of laser ion sources concerning their stability in the ion emission is presented. We distinguish between plasmas generated at a laser intensity threshold of 10^14 W/cm^2. Well reproducible time-of-flight spectrum of expanding ions istypical for the intensity below the threshold. Above the threshold, the plasma shows not only a separation of charges in space and time during the expansion but it also shows irregular outbursts of ions.
