Charge fluctuations and the valence transition in Yb under pressure

  • Original language description

Using combination of ab initio bandstructure and dynamical mean-field approximation the behavior of elemental Yb under pressure is studied and compared to other rare-earth Ce, Nd, and Pr. The local charge fluctuation and the charge susceptibility in Yb exhibit a distinct non-monotonic behavior which we interpret in terms of transition from fluctuating valence to intermediate valence behavior and relate to unusual compressibility.
