Original language description
Novel symmetrical and non-symmetrical bent-shaped compounds with the naphthalene central core possessing an outer thiophene unit in the lengthening arm were synthesised. Their mesomorphic behaviour was studied using optical polarising microscopy, DSC, and electrooptic methods. Structures of mesophases were identified by X-ray diffraction and parameters established. In the case of one thiophene unit in molecular arm we succeeded in preparation of mesogenic bent-shaped material with various lateral substitutions on the central naphthalene core and character of the terminal chain.
