Functional photochromic methylhydrosiloxane-based side chain liquid crystalline polymers
Original language description
A new azo-benzene group-containing monomer and several respective functional side-chain liquid crystalline polymers (SCLCPs) grafted on poly[(methylhydro)siloxane] backbone (with two different degree of polymerisation) are synthesized and characterized with and without adding a photoreactive benzophenone derivative. The monomer exhibits quite broad nematic liquid crystalline phase down to room temperature. Optical properties of these new liquid crystalline materials are determined by the absorbance spectra on oriented samples and by photo-induced birefringence measurements. The results indicate a considerable dichroism of the SCLCP, and hence the possibility to use these materials for optical storage in the glassy state.
