YAG:Ce codoped with Ho3+ and Er3+:energy transfer and acceleration of Ce3+ decay

  • Original language description

Ce3+ activated YAG is a well known luminescent material that found applications in many fields. Stable growth of YAG:Ce single crystal, chemical and mechanical stability, radiation hardness, relatively good light yield and fast decay of Ce3+ makes this material ideal also for application in radiation detection, particularly in detection of charged particles, as a scintillator. In this, work we present a novel approach that enables further acceleration of activator inherent decay, based on an embedding a proper additional luminescence center into the system. We report application of this principle on YAG:Ce single crystal codoped with Ho3+ and Er3+. Photoluminescence properties, with the main focus on Ce3+ decay kinetics, were studied in a wide range of codopant concentrations. Significant acceleration was achieved in both systems. Decay kinetics were analyzed using Förster-Dexter model. The extracted results can be used for precise decay time tailoring of Ce3+.n
