Diamond aminated with plasma polymer as biocompatible substrate for protein attachment
Original language description
Nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) films are known as a highly attractive material for biosensing applications due to their unique semiconducting properties. In this study, we investigate the immobilization of bovine serum albumin (BSA) molecules on the surface of flat and nanoporous diamond films terminated by hydrogen, oxygen or amine-containing plasma polymer (thickness 7 nm). GAR-FTIR and XPS measurements confirmed that the concentration of amine-containing bonds after the BSA attachment depends on the NCD surface termination. We found that the amine-containing polymer provides a strong interlink between BSA protein and the NCD film while preserving its globular conformation and probably also its biochemical functionality.
