Luminescence and scintillation properties of strontium hafnate and strontium zirconate single crystals
Original language description
The aims of this work were to prepare single crystalline samples of undoped Sr-deficient SHO and SZO using the optical floating zone method due to their high melting point arouns 2700 C, and to perform a preliminary study on their luminescence and scintillation properties. The analyses have shown significant Sr-deficiency for both materials due to evaporation of Sr-containing gaseous species. The overall scintillation efficiency of SHO was comparable to the Bi4Ge3O12 reference scintillating material, while that of SZO was considerably lower. The radioluminescence and photoluminescence spectra of both materials were significantly red-shifted when compared to the Sr-deficient powder counterparts. Strong afterglow has been observed and is responsible for low light yield of the materials.
