Effective control of optical purity by chiral HPLC separation for ester-based liquid crystalline materials forming anticlinic smectic phases

  • Original language description

Effective control of optical purity by chiral separation of (S) and (R) enantiomers remains an actual and highlighted task while designing new chiral organic materials. An efficient methodology to solve this task has been developed and verified on a specifically designed series of chiral fluorinated liquid-crystalline materials with lateral substitution on the molecular core. HPLC was done using amylose based stationary phases. The self-assembling behaviour of new racemic materials was established. While establishing the chiral separation behaviour, the optimal separation conditions were taken over from our previous study and used for two chiral columns with coated amylose as chiral selector. Interestingly, two racemic materials demonstrated an unexpected change in enantiomer elution order. This is a very important information from separation point of view, e.g. preparative chiral chromatography.
