New quaterphenyls laterally substituted by methyl group and their influence on the self-assembling behaviour of ferroelectric bicomponent mixtures
Original language description
Design of new functional binary mixtures possessing the self-assembling behaviour remains a highlighted task in order to tune the properties of soft materials. New chiral compounds with quaterphenyl core substituted by methylene group are synthesized and used as smart dopants to the basic compound with a highly tilted orthoconic ferroelectric smectic phase with the aim to establish the effect of the miscibility on the basic parameters of the resulting binary mixtures, specifically on the mesomorphic behaviour, spontaneous polarization, tilt angle, helical pitch length and dielectric behaviour. Discussion of the effect of the molecular structure on the mentioned properties should contribute to better understanding of the relationships arising while formulation of binary mixtures with properties suitable for practical applications in opto-electronics and photonics, and, specifically for the materials applicable for the polymer stabilized V-shaped ferroelectric liquid crystal mode.
