Crystal growth, morphology, and luminescence properties of LuSAG:Tm single crystals
Original language description
Tm-doped LuSAG crystals were successfully grown by the micro-pulling-down method. Crystals grown with Ir crucible with circular die and 0.5 mm capillary showed inhomogeneities and single crystalline domains. Crystals grown with Mo crucible with 2 mm hole in the bottom and circular conically-widened die showed better homogeneity and a homogeneous core. Fluorescence from the 3F4 → 3H6 transition around 2 µm was observed under 780 nm excitation (3H6 → 3H4 transition). The fluorescence at 2 µm suitable for the laser applications. Fluorescence decay time values pointed to inhomogeneous dopant distribution, lower phonon energies of the LuSAG host and concentration quenching. No laser action observed even from the homogeneous core. Further growth optimization is necessary.
