Growth of Cs2HfxZr1-xCl6 mixed crystals by vertical Bridgman method and analysis of Zr content on luminescent and scintillation properties

  • Original language description

Recently, the cesium hafnium chloride (Cs2HfCl6) broad much attention due to its promising scintillation properties as a new cost effective radiation detector. The Cs2HfCl6 has high light yield up to 54,000 ph/MeV, energy resolution of 2.8 % at 662 keV, scintillation response of 4.4 μs (95 % of energy) at 662 keV, moderate density of 3.86 g/cm3, and low hygroscopicity. In this contribution we continue in our previously presented work with the aim to study mixed crystals of Cs2HfxZr1-xCl6 (CHZC) and investigate the influence of the Hf/Zr ratio on the self-trapped emission. The crystals were prepared by mixing Cs2HfCl6 and Cs2ZrCl6 compounds in wide stoichiometry (x=0-1) and grown in a solid solution CHZC by the vertical Bridgman method. The goal was to determine and investigate the threshold when the main emission originates in the Hf or Zr emission depending on the Hf/Zr content for possible tunability of the CHZC matrix.
