Dissipative kinematics in binary neutron star mergers

  • Original language description

We highlight recent progress in calculating transport coefficients relevant to binary neutron star mergers. We analyze bulk viscosity driven by DURCA and MURCA processes and electron transport coefficients in dense, hot plasma pertinent to mergers. The study considers high temperatures ($T > 6 imes 10^{10}$ K) and dense environments ($n_B sim n_0 - 3n_0$). Bulk viscosity shows resonant behavior, with peak values and positions dependent on particle interaction rates and thermodynamic susceptibilities, calculated using a density functional approach. The bulk viscosity peaks at $T sim 10^{11}$ K, with a dissipation time scale of $20-50$ ms for compression-rarefaction oscillations. Electrical transports incorporate frequency-dependent dynamical screening in quantized electron-ion scattering rates, reducing the maxima of electrical and thermal conductivities and shortening dissipation time scales, thereby underscoring crucial role of dissipation coefficients in understanding mergers.
