Temperature-dependent characteristics, light yield nonproportionality, and intrinsic energy resolution of Ce,Mg:Lu2Y(Al,Ga)5O12 garnet ceramics

  • Original language description

The temperature-dependent characteristics of Ce,Mg:Lu2YGaxAl5-xO12 (x = 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3) garnet ceramics, fabricated by two-step sintering combined with air annealing, were investigated under photo and X-ray excitation. At high temperature, the decrease of radioluminescence intensity and photoluminescence decay time was observed in all samples due to thermal ionization of the Ce3+ excited 5d1 state. The activation energies of the thermal ionization process were determined from the temperature-dependent photoluminescence decay time measurements. Afterglow level was also measured under X-ray excitation. The light yield ratio (α/γ ratio) under excitation with α particles and γ photons, light yield nonproportionality, and energy resolution versus γ-ray energy were measured, and the intrinsic resolution was calculated and discussed.
