Effects of gravity and planetary waves on the lower ionosphere as obtained from radio wave absorption measurements.
Original language description
An overview of the effects of gravity and planetary waves on the lower ionosphere is given based on radio wave absorption measurements in Europe. The gravity wave activity in the lower ionosphere is sensitive to solar cycle and volcanic eruptions. The planetary wave activity appears to reveal a long-term trend, expressed by an increase of planetary wave activity in the 1970s and 1980s.
