Propagation of Gravity waves in the ionosphere from multi-point Doppler sounding
Original language description
Multi-point observations by Doppler sounding system makes it possible to investigate propagation of Gravity Waves (GWs) in the ionosphere. The system operating at two different frequencies (3.59 MHz and 4.27 MHz) is located in the Central Europe, Czech Republic. Similar multi-point system operating at only one frequency was also installed in Western Cape in South Africa (f3.59 MHz) and in Northern Argentina, in the vicinity of Tucuman (f4.63 MHz). Simultaneous measurements of near-by ionosondes are usedto estimate reflection heights of the transmitted frequency . The largest fluctuations of Doppler shift (wave activity) are observed when the sounding radio waves reflect at altitudes from 150 to 250 km (sometimes up to 300 km), i.e. mainly in the F layer.
