THE IONOSPHERIC DYNAMICS AS MEASURED BY THE DOPPLER SOUNDING AND BY THE DIGISONDE TECHNIQUE
Original language description
Vertical ionospheric sounding produces ionograms and subsequently electron densitynprofiles. Modern ionosondes arealso able to monitor dynamics of ionospheric layers by driftnmeasurements. The drift measurements have been performed at ionospheric observatory ofnPruhonice for the last 10 years with 15 min cadence. Since 2007, Continuous Doppler Soundingnhave also been carried out to monitor wave activity on short timescales, up to ~10 s. BothnDigisonde and Continuous Doppler Sounder measure about the same volume in the ionosphere.nOur contribution compares the potential of both measurements to investigate dynamics of thenionosphere. Several case studies are presented. Monitoring of the dynamics of the ionosphere hasngreat potential for the prediction of ionospheric conditions.
