Invited plenary introductory lecture reviews state of the art of international collaborative research into cultural heritage in the newly associated countries to the EU. It further identifies problems to be solved in the field and relates lack of national support to the cultural heritage research to the absence of cultural heritage priorities within the EC supported Framework Programmes.

Pozvaná úvodní plenární přednáška na první evropské konferenci o výzkumu kulturního dědictví, konané v jedné z nových členských zemích EU, shrnuje stav společného mezinárodního výzkumu v těchto zemích. Ukazuje problémy, které by měly být řešeny společnýmvýzkumem kulturního dědictví a dává do relace nízkou nebo zcela chybějící národní podporu tohoto výzkumu s výběrem priorit evropských rámcových programů.
