X-Ray Radiography of Three-Point Bending of Single Human Trabecula
Original language description
In this study, three-point bending is used to measure Young's modulus and yield properties of human trabeculae. X-ray radiography of isolated trabeculae extracted from proximal human femur is performed to track microspheres attached to its surface. The microspheres are used to improve the precision of the strain measurement at this structural level. Use of X-ray microradiography eliminates problems associated with difficulties connected to use of optical methods to measure the strains at high magnification (very small depth of focus, penetration of visible light in the sample, loss of the focus during the experiment, etc.)
