Performance of earth block and rammed earth masonry under cyclic loading and reinforcement effectivity
Original language description
The current paper focuses on the investigation of the pseudodynamic behaviour of earthen panels under in-plane cyclic load and on the assessment of reinforcement and retrofitting solutions adopted. The types of wall segments considered in the experimentsconsisted of one leaf adobe masonry with earthen mortar and monolithic rammed earth wall. Investigations were carried out at micro and macrostructural levels in order to demonstrate the mechanical behaviour of constituent materials as well as that of the structural elements (walls). The goal of the experiments was to test the general response of non-retrofitted / non-reinforced walls towards pseudo-dynamic horizontal loading and to test the effect of retrofitted / reinforced walls.
