Methodology of protection and rescue of cultural heritage against flood
Original language description
This contribution discusses some results of the ongoing research project focused on protection of cultural heritage from floods danger. During last 20 years we have been experiencing many severe flooding that influenced almost every part of the Czech Republic. Except damages of life and property there have been loss of historical monuments, devastation of sites and changes in historical landscape. Irreversible loss and great expenses spent to restoration and renewal and led to the conclusion that integrated flood risk management is needed. It also appeared that if we want to protect effectively historic environment against flooding we have to apply way more sensitive and conscious approach as placing permanent flood-protecting constructions can destroy the site as well as disaster itself. Cooperation between experts from different domains has to be established to achieve required outcome.
