Mini-jack based direct determination of wood mechanical characteristics in situ
Original language description
The paper presents a new diagnostic technique allowing the determination of strength (CSC (L)) and modulus of deformability (MODC (L)) by pushing grips apart in a bored hole. There is no other technique that allows the same in situ. Experimental measurements were carried out using 30 spruce boards at moisture contents of 12, 18 and 24%. The results of the tests prove a very good correlation of the strength determined by the proposed technique and wood density and strength determined using standard samples in compression parallel to the grain. The effect of the wood moisture on the measurement by pushing grips apart in a borehole was confirmed too.
