Investigation of the consolidation treatment by differential X-ray radiography
Original language description
A consolidation treatment restores original properties of degraded historical building materials.nThe consolidation based on the surface impregnation of an object (historical monument)nis quite popular in restoration nowadays. The treatment increases material density by the absorptionnof consolidating solution that contains particles of the building material. A distributionnof the new deposited material inside the object significantly affects the resulting objectnproperties; therefore a method to analyze such a treatment is needed. Here, a method basednon the differential X-ray radiography is introduced for this purpose. The method is employednin the case of Mastricht limestone consolidated by CaLoSil solution that contains particlesnof calcium hydroxide dissolved in ethanol. The results showed that the distribution of the newnmaterial is strongly heterogeneous inside the specimen. Based on this fact, a modificationnprocedure that affects the resulting distribution in a better way is proposed.
