Original language description
Thermal cycling of marbles can induce initiation of cracks propagation, finally leading tonstone decay. Such deterioration is caused by anisotropic thermal expansion of calcite crystals.nThe extent of stone decay is strongly dependent on the stone fabric and its texture. In this study thermal response, fabric and texture of four different marbles will be investigated. Based on the results from the dilatometry values of thermal expansion coefficient α and residual strain ɛ will be calculated and related to the determined stone composition, fabric and texture.
