Virtual collection of cuneiform tablets as a complex multilevel system with interdisciplinary content
Original language description
The contribution deals with the architecture of a virtual collection of cuneiform tablets, con-ceived as a complex system combining and integrating several domains of information obtained from various types of analyses. The collection consists of cuneiform tablets from the Old Assyrian period ex-cavated in Kültepe (Turkey, ancient Kanesh) by Bedřich Hrozný and is almost entirely homogeneous in the sense that it comes from one location and rather narrow chronological layer (ca 19th century BCE). From the point of view of the content, majority of the tablets represent correspondence among the mem-bers of the ancient Assyrian society, connected with the Old Assyrian trade network [01], [02]. Textual edition of the collection can be found in [03]. In general, tablets are a special case of pottery with added textual information and very subtle and easily damageable surface [04]. The priority aims of the virtual collection is to preserve the physical collection and avoid direct contact possibly causing their wear-out, and to offer a powerful tool for both administration and further analysis of the collection as a whole and its internal and external relations, and to enhance research work by introducing elements of digital hu-manities approach. This tool should help both in preserving the collection and in positioning it within a broader context.
