XRF data layer in multidomain database of collection of cuneiform tablets
Original language description
The contribution deals with the architecture of a virtual XRF data layer in multidomain database of collection of cuneiform tablets. Cuneiform tablets are oldest written documents of humankind, therefore enable to study life of ancient society, its economic activities and also network of spatial relations between its members. As important source of information about the past, the tablets are of highest interest of scholars, but also due to their precious nature, the access to collections scattered around the world is rather complicated. Therefore attempts to make collections virtually available in form of digital collection can be found, however the data made available are far from complete. In order to overcome this situation the intention of the presented project is to design a complex dataset of cuneiform tablets covering linguistic, historical, chemical composition data along with 3D models and CT scans. The database, freely accessible to everyone, will cover the collection of about four hundreds of cuneiform tablets collected a century ago by Czech scholar Bedřich Hrozný, who also decisively contributed to translating the scripture on the tablets. The main aim of the multidomain content of the records is to enable complex queries combining fragments of historical, linguistic and physical information to discover new relations between records. The physical layer, represented mainly with XRF data, visual spectra and colorimetric measurements play important role in depicting provenience of the tablets, potentially elucidating trade routes and spatial reach of exchange in the society.
