Varex Dexela detectors use their custom image format designated with the *.smv extension. Besides the image data, which can even be multiple for stacked images, there is a 512 bytes header. When the default Dexela API function for image correction is intended to be used, dark-current (offset), bright-field (gain) and bad-pixel-map images are required in the Dexela native format. It is not a problem to acquire the dark-current and bright-field images using the Dexela API acquisition function. However, it is not possible to generate the bad-pixel-map (hereinafter BPM) comfortably. The user can generate the BPM from the dark-current and bright-field image, but the result will not be an *.smv format file, but rather a general binary file. Therefore, a converting tool is needed to avoid scripting on any ocassion when a BPM in *.smv is required. Bin-to-smv converter is a tiny application written in Python, which allows for an easy conversion of a binary image to the smv file.
