Methods for Evaluation of Structural Timber
Original language description
This paper is concerned with investigating the use of non-destructive testing methods for structural timber grading and for determining the properties of structural timber elements. The investigation described dealt with the ultrasonic method and the method of longitudinal and transverse vibrations. The usability of these methods was verified using samples with structural dimensions. The principle of this work lay in the search for statistic relationships of parameters characterising the timber quality(e.g. bending strength and modulus of elasticity) and magnitudes measured by the above mentioned non-destructive testing methods (e.g. natural frequency and dynamic modulus of elasticity).
