Nonlocal Formulations for Softening Materials
Original language description
This paper discusses various numerical techniques for the simulation of strain localization based on the nonlocal damage theory. After a brief introduction into isotropic and anisotropic damage models and their nonlocal formulations, the properties of the consistent nonlocal tangent stiffness matrix are discussed, and its application in structural simulations is demonstrated. Mesh-adaptive techniques based on an error indicator and suitable mapping algorithms for internal variables are described. To improve the resolution of highly localized strain by the finite element method, special interpolation enrichment are proposed. All these developments are illustrated by examples
