On Multiscale Approach to Modeling of Materials and Structures in Civil Engineering
Original language description
The goal of multiscale modeling is to predict the performance and behavior of complex materials or structures across all relevant scales starting from fundamental physical mechanisms. The approach is demonstrated on two examples: modeling of high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites and simulation of a reinforced concrete building structure collapsing during demolition. It is shown that using the multiscale concept it is possible to formulate physically sound yet numerically efficient analytical models, which enable engineers to verify and optimize new concepts in the construction industry.
