Charles Bridge in Prague - Measurements of Temperature Fields
Original language description
The article describes measurements of temperature fields of Charles Bridge in Prague during the period of 1988 - 1990. The objective was to explore different types of behaviour of the Charles Bridge structure in the area of the arch crown and in the pier. Arch No 10 was selected for this purpose. Another major aim of the measurement was to monitor the behaviour of the bridge structure over the period of one year to include extreme temperature fields during all four seasons. This measurement is especially important as it involved measuring of temperature gradients not only on the bridge surface, but also inside the Charles Bridge structure. The measurements resulted from the demands of practice related to preparation works for the reconstruction of Charles Bridge in Prague.
