Evropská strategie ochrany recipientu: Konsekvence v systému městského odvodnění
Original language description
Implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) results in the fact that urban water management has to become fully integrated into the river basin management in order to achieve good ecological status of surface waters and groundwater. Moreover, WFD insists on cost-efficient management, where benefits should exceed costs. It introduces a combined approach of receiving waters protection based on the definition of both emission and imission limits for point pollution sources. Thus, these requirements force urban water management into a new strategy - measures will have to be designed not only with respect to the urbanized catchment alone but also with respect to the receiving waters characteristics. The consequences for the urban drainage systems in the Czech Republic are not well understood and their careful identification is urgently needed.
