Modeling of Water and Pesticide Transport in Andisols

Original language description

Leaching behavior of six pesticides and tracer was investigated in andisols on the island Maui. The physico-chemical properties of the soil and pesticides, evaluated in this study, will be used to determine whether these pesticides will be permitted forunrestricted use, or with some restrictions. This information will be used by the state of Hawaii to classify this group of chemicals for intra-state sale and use. Field and laboratory experiments were conducted to test four herbicides, a fungicide, andan insecticide. These experiments were done to evaluate leach ability of these compounds and to compare them with a tracer. Model of water and solute transport was used to check and to verify acquired data from the experiments. In this paper, measured data are compared with model calculations. Results of the model were used to rate selected pesticides whether they are likely or not to be a threat to the groundwater.

Modelování proudění vody a transportu pesticidů v andisolech

Czech description

Na půdách typu andisol na ostrově Maui bylo zkoumáno vyluhování vybraných šesti pesticidů. Pomocí fyzikálně-chemických vlastností půdy a pesticidů vyhodnocených v této studii budou stanovena omezení, jak mohou tyto pesticidy být prodávány a používány. Terénní a laboratorní experimenty byly provedeny se čtyřmi herbicidy (atrazin, s-metolachlor, sulfometuron methyl, and imazaquin), fungicidem (trifloxystrobin) a insecticidem (imidacloprid). Účelem těchto experimentů bylo zhodnotit vyluhování vybraných pesticidů a srovnat jejich transport s tracerem. Transport vody a rozpuštěných látek byl modelován pro kontrolu a ověření získaných dat z experimentů. V tomto příspěvku jsou porovnána měřená a simulovaná data. Výstupy modelu budou použity k odhadu potencionálního ohrožení podzemní vody pesticidy.
