Estimation of the Soil Hydraulic Properties in Headwater Territory
Original language description
Prediction of water flow in porous systems relies on appropriate description of unsaturated hydraulic properties. Hydraulic functions of soils are varying in both time and space. This contribution aims at quantifying the spatio-temporal variability of soil hydraulic characteristics at highly heterogeneous headwater watershed. Pressure head data recorded by tensiometers within few consecutive years were used. Water regime in the soil profile was simulated with code based on Richards' equation. To simplify the description of spatial variability of hydraulic properties, the concept of linear variability of porous medium is used. Inverse modeling was performed in order to minimize discrepancies between the model response and measured pressure heads. The scaling factors were used to upscale the reference parameters by means of inverse modeling. From the numerical experiments, it follows that the spatial variability of the hydraulic characteristics prevails over temporal variations.
