Inverse Modelling of Dual-Permeability System
Original language description
In our study, dual-permeability approach is applied, in which the porous medium is supposed to consist of two flow domains with different hydraulic properties. In this approach, Richards' equation is assumed to be valid for each of the two domains, allowing local non-equilibrium conditions between the flow domains. The dual-permeability forward simulator was optimized by non-linear weighted least-squares routine. The optimization procedure was used to minimize the discrepancies between the simulated andthe measured values. Inverse modeling was carried out to find an optimal set of parameters for the simulation model. Two fundamentally different cases are presented - the optimization of the laboratory infiltration-outflow experiment on a large undisturbed soil sample, and inverse modeling of a field soil-water regime. The formulation of the objective function, the uniqueness of the inverse problem, and the sensitivity of the estimated hydraulic parameters are discussed.
