During individual stages of their life cycle in all the various forms of structural and technological systems, infrastructure systems consume a quantity of energy that is approximately equal to one-third of the total required to produce them. Environmental compatibility of structures and technologies constitutes an integrated engineering approach that aims to optimize the reduction of the negative impact resulting from the structures during their entire life cycle.
