Original language description

The main objective of the paper is the homogenization of solids with relatively high density of cracks (joints). To that end we present several approaches to the evaluation of the loss of stiffness due to cracks in a homogenous material. First, simple averaging techniques are revisited and subjected to a critical comparison through a number of examples. In particular, the results for random distribution of parallel slit cracks are presented and compared with the periodic unit cell simulations.
