During the last decade the Czech Republic was severely affected by a series of flood events. The last major crisis occurred in August 2002 and showed the necessity of numerous actions to be taken to improve general preparedness and prevention. One of them is the project FLAMIS (Flood analysis and mitigation on the Lužnice River in South Bohemia) started in June 2003. A complex 1D model of the Lužnice, Nežárka and Nová řeka river system was created debugged and calibrated using the observed water flood in August 2002 and other available data. The finalized and calibrated model was used to simulate floods with peak discharges at various return periods. Detailed 2D models were created for selected towns in the zone of interest, where the results of a 1D model cannot be reliably applied due to the complexity of the urban areas and the limitations of 1D modelling methodology.

Czech description

V průběhu poslední dekády byla Česká Republika několikrát postižena extrémními povodňovými událostmi. Poslední největší povodeň proběhla v srpnu 2002 a ukázala na potřebu mnoha akcí, které by vedly ke zlepšení připravenosti a prevence. Jednou z těchto akcí je projekt FLAMIS, který se začal řešit v roce 2003. Byl vytvořen a zkalibrován komplexní 1D model Lužnice, Nežárky a Nové řeky . Finální verze modelu byla použita pro simulace průběhů N-letých vod. Pro vybraná města, ve kterých není možné spolehlivěpoužít výsledky jednorozměrných modelů vzhledem ke složitosti urbanizovaného území a omezením 1D modelů, byly vytvořeny detailní 2D numerické modely.
